Journey Into Imagination With Figment (A Resorts Gal Ride Review)
Journey into Imagination with Figment is an attraction in the Imagination Pavilion of World Celebration at Epcot. Below, we’ll discuss what to expect from this attraction and the best time to ride it.
Before we start, here are a few lyrics from the attraction’s song, One Little Spark, written by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman. The Sherman brothers are well-known for their songwriting, including Mary Poppins, among other Disney classics.
“Imagination, imagination. A dream can be a dream come true with just a spark from me and you. One little spark of inspiration.”
Journey into Imagination with Figment is a slow-moving attraction. While this attraction has been around for quite some time, it is not true to the original ride. Tony Baxter and Steve Kirk created the original Journey into Imagination with Figment. That version of the ride included Figment, One Little Spark, and Dreamfinder.
In the late 90s, the attraction underwent extensive refurbishment. Unfortunately, fan favorites Figment and One Little Spark were removed. With so many complaints about the second version of the ride, Disney closed it three years later. When the third version of the attraction reopened, it included both Figment and One Little Spark.

Journey into Imagination with Figment
Journey into Imagination with Figment is a slow-moving attraction where you visit the Imagination Institute to learn how the imagination works. What better way to learn than by a tour guide who’s a purple dragon named Figment?
One of the good things about Journey into Imagination is that it accommodates everyone. In addition, there are no restrictions, making it a good family ride. There is also an option to use Genie+ at the attraction.
While this attraction has an individual Lightning Lane, it’s not needed in most cases. Waits for the attraction tend to diminish by late afternoon and are almost non-existent by nighttime.
Here is a look at the queue for Journey Into Imagination with Figment. It features fun, vibrant colors to stimulate your…Imagination!
There are also a few pictures of the “inventors” and “awards” right before you enter the Sensory Lab. Here, we see Dr. Nigel Channing (Eric Idle), Professor Philip Brainard (Robin Williams from Flubber), and Wayne Szalinski (Rick Moranis from Honey, I Shrunk the Kids).
The attraction vehicles seat two to three guests per row in the front and back. Four sets of cars go out at a time.
After boarding the ride, scientist Dr. Nigel Channing welcomes you to the lab. He explains how you’re about to visit the sound lab, sight lab, and smell lab. Fortunately, you don’t make it over to the taste labs.
Our first stop in the Imagination attraction is the sound lab. This is where Figment appears to play a few tricks with the audio.
Next, you’ll move on to the sight lab. Once again, Figment quickly takes over. There is no question as to who’s in charge.
An eye chart will rapidly become a “Figment” of your imagination.
Maybe you will have better luck at the smell labs!
Uh-Oh! (Kids do find this amusing!) So say goodbye to that good luck, and hello Figment! Figment the skunk, I mean!
Okay, it really doesn’t smell that bad, and the odor is very brief. At this point, Figment has completely taken over the ride, and it is every guest for themselves. Finally, Dr. Channing insists that the ride must end.
For once, Figment agrees. But he has a better idea! Why not visit his open house?
Warning: Everything in Figment’s house is upside down! However, I enjoy watching movies and eating popcorn upside down, don’t you?
Right before I sneak into the fridge for a late-night snack!
Toward the end, you will find yourself right back in the lab with Dr. Nigel Channing explaining a few more “boring” things to you. Thankfully Figment has a plan of his own and eliminates the boring to a setting full of all sorts of, you guessed it–Imagination!
It’s a stunning finale!
Which Figment is your favorite?

The Resorts Gal Spin on Journey Into Imagination
Parents and adults, I wouldn’t expect too much out of this attraction. It’s exceptionally dated. But children love it. We’ve ridden it so many times, and I can’t help but notice how all the children laugh and enjoy the scenes with Figment throughout the ride. So I think that, along with the ride’s inspirational message, makes it worthy of at least one spin!
