GEO-82 Review (Epcot’s Exclusive Adults-Only Spaceship Earth-Themed Lounge)
After fumbling the “reservation thing” a gazillion times, we finally got one to visit GEO-82 at Epcot. I don’t know about you, but I’m the worst at securing reservations for anything. It’s so embarrassing. But let’s face it, anything that’s associated with the words “Spaceship Earth” is going to draw a fandom frenzy…and if it’s good, it will be that way for a long time. In this review of GEO-82, we’ll share our experience at the lounge, what we tried, and our thoughts on how “good” it really is.
Geo-82 is an adults-only bar and lounge that’s themed to Epcot’s park icon and popular attraction, Spaceship Earth. While most lounge spaces at Disney are family-friendly, guests must be 21 years of age and show proper identification to visit this location. The restaurant’s name is derived from the attraction’s geometric shape, a geodesic sphere, with the 82 being a nod to 1982, when Epcot and Spaceship Earth both opened. The entire location is literally oozing Spaceship Earth. I mean, just look at the picture below, and you’ll see it everywhere.

The entrance of GEO-82 is near the Project Tomorrow signs toward the back of Spaceship Earth, facing World Celebration Gardens. If it weren’t for a few a-frame signs sitting outside, it might be difficult to find.

Once inside, we stood in a decent line of guests to check in. At publish time, the lounge’s website has one of those red disclaimers warning guests that reservations are required. I imagine that it would be extremely unlikely to get a walk-up. For the record, we ended up getting this reservation by staying up until almost midnight and refreshing the reservation system the night before. Of course, as frequent guests, our plans are almost always flexible. You might not be as willing to rearrange your entire day around that random 11:30 a.m. reservation that pops up at the last minute.

After confirming our reservation with the cast member, we were told that we could take the stairs or elevator up to the upper-level lounge. You’ll see nods to Spaceship Earth everywhere you look.

We took the elevator.

Once we arrived upstairs, we were directed to another waiting area. This room was pretty full when we first got there, but within a few minutes, we were the only guests left waiting. It worked out so that I was able to take a few photos.

If you’re into keepsakes (we are), you’ll want to check out this display in the waiting area. It offers a glance at a GEO-82 Wine Glass and Rocks Glass take-home set that’s available for purchase. It’s a very nice set indeed.

Per the display: The Luigi Bormioli wine glass, created with traditional Italian craftsmanship and new-age glassmaking technology, features lead-free crystal of the highest quality and is dishwasher safe. (Your server can bring a set to the table if you would like a closer look.)

You’ll also see a display featuring the specialty liquors that are used in the lounge’s signature cocktails.

We waited approximately 10 minutes to get seated. The lounge wasn’t full on arrival, but rest assured, it was packed by the time we left. That said, the layout does provide enough space to have intimate conversations with your travel party. You won’t feel in any way that you’re sitting with strangers.

As far as the interior goes, it’s all well-done. The bar is impressive. Looking at the photo below, you can tell that everything has its place.

I would recommend taking a moment or two to absorb your surroundings. This kind of attention to detail is what makes Disney such an incredible vacation destination that’s not “just rides and attractions.”

We lucked up and got a window seat in the corner. (I don’t know what else an introvert like me could ask for!)

Not long after being seated, a server stopped by the table and gave us an overview of the menu with a few recommendations. Since our reservation was at 12:30 p.m., we had decided that we’d order a few appetizers to share and call it lunch.

Kristen ordered the Brown Butter Old-Fashioned. Per the menu, it’s Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Bourbon, Brown Butter, Maple, Hella Cocktail Co. Mexican Chocolate Bitters. This was a strong drink that she sipped on throughout the entirety of our meal, but I think that’s to be expected when we’re talking about a nearly $30.00 price tag per drink. We were both enthralled with the Spaceship Earth ice cube. Anything Spaceship Earth, right?

Since I have a food-dye allergy, I went with the A. Bergère ‘Origine’ Brut NV, a French champagne. I don’t drink often, so a glass of the bubbly is a rare treat. I was also a little hesitant about ordering a $26.00 pour, but when our server noted that it was comparable to a Taittinger, I felt more assured. It was a fine pour of champagne, and something I would order again on a return visit.

As far as appetizers, we went with the Chef’s Selection of Artisanal Cheeses, Cured Meats, and Accompaniments. It came with a variety of items, including specialty meats, various crackers, cheese, pickles, and jams.

We both agreed that this was one of the best charcuterie boards we’d had in some time. The quality reminded me of what we used to get at California Grill before it turned into a boring prix fixe-only meal with limited selections.

Per our server’s suggestion, we also ordered the Truffled Ahi Tuna, which is described as Japanese Whisky Barrel-aged Soy-Truffle Ponzu, Citrus, Scallion, Tobiko, Black Sesame Seeds. If you enjoy sashimi at all, this is the way to go. It was a flavorful dish. My only complaint was that the citrus was a little more sour than sweet.

Here’s a closer look.

Our experience really blew us away. Kristen returned a few days later with her family, and they had an equally fun time. The service was impeccable, the food and beverage options were phenomenal, and the Spaceship Earth theming feels luxurious, especially for an Epcot fan.

Final Thoughts
Overall, I look forward to returning to GEO-82 again. It was just that good, but I think that next time I’ll try my best to secure an evening reservation. Of course, that will be a little more difficult to do with long summer days approaching and later sunsets. That said, I would really like to compare daytime views versus nighttime. You may also remember that this location offers a special fireworks experience in the evenings, but good luck booking that, too!
As it turns out, GEO-82 is truly as good as it gets. So good that it’s probably going to be difficult to book for a long time to come. That is, unless you’re just one of those people who luck out in the reservation game!
