Review: Tiana’s Beignets and the Battle of the Frontierland Fries
If you’ve been following along, you know we’ve recently been foraging the Magic Kingdom for a few snacks and light bites. Our last stop was to check out the spring rolls in Adventureland, which offer a tasty and filling bite. On a subsequent visit, we placed a mobile order from Golden Oak Outpost in Frontierland to try Tiana’s famous beignets, and we added an order of sweet potato fries. As far as the battle of the fries goes, we’ll get to that. In the meantime, know that if you’re in the Frontierland area, there are two decent options that offer a unique twist on a traditional order of fries, just a few steps apart.

The primary items in this review can be found at Golden Oak Outpost, which is on the outskirts of Frontierland. The quick-service location serves less than a handful of menu items and sits immediately outside the back entrance of Adventureland. It’s kind of like the spring roll cart; you go here for a few specific items like chicken nuggets, beignets, or fries. While you won’t find a large variety of items here, you’ll usually find a decent line. Thankfully, this location takes mobile orders. So I would suggest placing an order via the app and picking it up when it’s ready. But let’s not put the cart before the horse.

When I went to place our mobile order, it was an exceptionally busy afternoon around 5:00 p.m. Almost all the tables in the nearby sitting area were full. About the time I picked up my order, a table and chairs became available. So we snagged it, and I quickly took a few photos of our snack. Per the menu, Tiana’s Famous Beignets are light, sweet, and fluffy with powdered sugar and drizzled with honey. At the time of this visit, an order of three cost $7.29.

I’ll be the first to admit that I have very limited experience with beignets. I have had the Mickey-shaped beignets at Scat Cat’s Club Cafe at Port Orleans French Quarter, and they were delicious. I’ve also had a couple of orders of Mexican doughnuts at a local restaurant near my hometown. They are a true guilty pleasure. But the order we received this afternoon was not up to par. After trying the first one, I was disappointed. I’m not entirely sure, but I feel like the dough might have been sitting out too long or something. They were just tough and chewy. When you bit into them, it was like you were ripping the bite away instead of getting that pillowy-soft, effortless feel. Other guests had watched me taking photos and soon chimed in that they were “not good.” It was a pretty unanimous conclusion among the five or so tables surrounding me. Part of me feels like this could have just been a fluke. So you might do better, but based on this experience, I wouldn’t order them again.

The sweet potato fries turned out to be a tasty snack for $4.29. We really enjoyed them, and I was glad to see something fresh and different on the menu besides the usual fries, especially when you can order regular fries across the walkway at Pecos Bill’s Tall Tale Inn and Cafe.

Which reminded me of another order of fries I had tried, and brings us back to the battle of the Frontierland Fries. Below, we have a picture of an order of Queso Fries from Pecos Bill, which was $6.99. Per the menu, these fries are topped with Chipotle Queso and Pico de Gallo. We enjoyed this order of fries a few months ago when we were waiting for our reservation time at the Beak and Barrel. While this is a basic order of fries with toppings, the queso gave it that craveable taste where you keep going back for one more bite. We would definitely order these again.

As for the winner of the Frontierland Fry Battle, I would have to choose the queso fries. That said, I would happily order either option again. The sweet potato fries are a good option and probably a tad healthier since they’re not swimming in cheese sauce. So remember, if you want to try beignets and fries, you can mobile order from both of these locations, and they are immediately next to each other. I hope your beignets will be better than ours.
Lastly, both Pecos Bill and Golden Oak Outpost accept dining plans. If you’re looking for options, we have a complimentary spreadsheet that lists the 2026 restaurants on the Disney Dining Plan.
