Character Spotlight: Princess Merida from ‘Brave’ at Disney World
Princess Merida from Disney Pixar’s Brave has become an obscure character at Walt Disney World. She is a Scottish princess from the kingdom of Dunbroch and the daughter of King Fergus and Queen Elinor. She has three siblings (triplets) named Hamish, Hubert, and Harris. Merida formerly had a traditional meet-and-greet at Magic Kingdom. Unfortunately, she was removed from the character lineup in late 2023. Below, we’ll preview photos of her previous locations and discuss where you might find her during your next visit.

- Sometimes, Merida appears at Cinderella’s Royal Table (character dining) in the Magic Kingdom.
Merida from ‘Brave’ Timeline
- Merida had a traditional meet-and-greet in Fairytale Gardens at Magic Kingdom, which initially debuted in 2012 around the film’s release. She met in this location until 2020 when all character meet-and-greets were temporarily suspended due to the pandemic. She returned to Fairytale Gardens in 2022 and met there until mid-2023.
- In 2023, Merida’s meet-and-greet at Fairytale Gardens was reimagined. Mirabel from Encanto debuted at this location in the late summer. At that time, Merida moved to the Liberty Square Gazebo. Later in the year, Santa Claus took over the space during the Christmas holidays. We believe that Merida didn’t return or only briefly returned after the holidays. She has not had a traditional meet-and-greet since then.
- Merida formerly had a float in the Festival of Fantasy Parade at Magic Kingdom. This float was pulled sometime after the parade returned to everyday performances after COVID-19 restrictions.
- When the parks reopened in 2020 with social distancing measures in place, Merida was part of the Royal Princess Processional Cavalcade. She rode a horse and headed up the mini-parade.
