Our Review of The Little Mermaid: A Musical Adventure
The Little Mermaid: A Musical Adventure is on the corner of the former Animation Courtyard. A covered queue sits outside the theater’s entrance. If you arrive early enough for the next performance, you can likely wait inside the interior portion of the queue. All other guests will wait in the exterior portion of the queue.

When it’s time for the next performance, cast members will open the theater doors, allowing guests to enter. Those in wheelchairs and ECVs can sit in dedicated accessible areas toward the back of the theater. All other guests are asked to continue to the opposite end of the row, allowing the entire theater to fill.

Soon after, the performance begins with King Triton and Sebastian as animated elements. They are awaiting a musical performance from Ariel, the Little Mermaid, and her sisters.

As the story goes, Ariel is nowhere to be found when the final clam shell opens. At this point, all the characters are strictly on screen.

Then, the set changes, and Ariel appears in real life. She is talking with Flounder, who appears as a puppet.

After a brief scuffle with her father, Ariel is shown in a dual scene with Prince Eric. It’s a touching scene.

Perhaps, the highlight of the show is the Under the Sea act, where Ariel floats across the stage with on-screen animations and live puppets. The entire theater comes to life with the upbeat melody of the song and the stunning visuals.

Of course, that act is followed by Ariel making the biggest mistake of her life as she signs a deal with Ursula. This act was very well done.

After the scene with Ursula, the story rapidly unfolds. Understandingly, it would probably be difficult for the audience to sit through the entire play. That said, it is a bit of a damper that we don’t get to see the romance develop between Prince Eric and Ariel.

Ursula soon returns to shake things up so her curse on Ariel can’t be broken.

As the story goes, Prince Eric saves the day, and King Triton sees that he might have been a little too harsh on his daughter.

The pair gets their happily ever after, and all is right again on land and under the sea.

The Resorts Gal Spin on ‘The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure’
We give this endearing stage show the green light. It is a high-quality, Broadway-style production. Our only issue with the performance is that it is a bit rushed. We would actually prefer this to be a 25-30 minute offering to allow a little more time for the story to develop.
Overall, we wouldn’t miss it if you haven’t had the opportunity to see it before. Our best advice is to arrive 20-30 minutes early. We usually sit toward the back of the theater for a broader view of the performance. If you’re visiting with little ones, though, you might prefer to sit closer to the stage to see the characters and puppets better. I cannot say enough good things about the puppeteers who bring characters like Sebastian and Flounder to life. Don’t miss it!
