Keelhaul Falls at Typhoon Lagoon (An Inner Tube Water Slide Attraction)

Keelhaul Falls is a water slide attraction for single riders at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon. It’s located toward the back of the park near Ketchakiddee Creek, the dedicated children’s area. More specifically, the slide sits between the park’s other two “fall” slides, Mayday Falls and Gangplank Falls. All the slides in this area are meant to be ridden with inner tubes or rafts.

Below, we’ll discuss the specifics of experiencing Keelhaul Falls on your next visit and preview a few photos. It’s important to point out that while none of the “fall” slides have a height requirement, they are not for everyone.

Disney describes this attraction as follows: “Feel the force of whitewater rapids as you rush along a course lined with boulders and palm trees. Whoosh through caverns and spin below waterfalls—before an exhilarating splashdown at the bottom.”

Since these three slides all sit next to each other near the top of Mount Mayday, it’s hard to tell the difference between them. For reference, Keelhaul has blue inner tubes, Mayday has yellow tubes, and Gangplank has giant rafts. A wait time is displayed near the slide’s entrance. However, you can usually gauge the length of the line ahead.

I wouldn’t recommend waiting more than 15-20 minutes if the line appears long. These are fun slides, but they’re extremely fast and over quickly. They also rarely have waits later in the day. Check out our one-day touring itinerary for Typhoon Lagoon to learn more about strategically planning your day.

As mentioned above, Keelhaul Falls does not have a height requirement. The pool’s depth is 3’6″ (3 feet and 6 inches) at the slide’s exit. Guests will pick up an inner tube at the slide’s exit before heading to the top. Children must be able to carry their own tubes. Once you reach the bottom, slide the tube back under the roped-off area before exiting the attraction.

If you’ve read any of my other articles about the “falls” slides, you know my main issue with tube slides is flipping out. Thankfully, I can laugh as I reflect on those times. However, as a middle-aged adult, I’ve become cautious about riding inner tube slides. I have found that if I lean back and relax, I rarely have any trouble. But that’s easier said than done.

The Resorts Gal Spin on Keelhaul Falls

We give Keelhaul Falls the red light. These days, I tend to pass on the single-rider tube slides. Or if I do ride them, it’s usually a one-and-done for the day. Anyway, I’ll let you decide whether or not to take on Keelhaul Falls. You can always find a place nearby to watch and wait for your children. That said, Typhoon Lagoon has plenty of thrilling attractions and rides suitable for everyone.

Green Light

We give an attraction the green light if we consider it a must-do, regardless of the posted wait. We also give the green light for attractions we deem suitable to experience anytime. For example, some attractions have high capacities. Therefore, the lines continuously move and you shouldn’t have a long wait unless the attraction experiences downtime.

Red Light

We recommend checking the posted wait times for red light attractions. Then, make a quick judgment call on whether to wait, skip it, or return later. We also red light some attractions that we feel might not be suitable based on our experience.
