Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter Pool Guide (Photos and Amenities)
If you’re planning a stay at Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter, this guide to the Doubloon Lagoon pool will help you know what to expect. Located along the Sassagoula River in the Disney Springs Resort Area, the French Quarter is home to one of the most distinctive resort pools on property. It features a lively Mardi Gras theme, complete with a giant sea serpent whose tail forms a bridge overhead and a water slide that sends guests out of the serpent’s mouth.
Below, we’ll take an in-depth look at the Doubloon Lagoon pool. You’ll find photos and details about the main feature pool, the aquatic play area for children, the hot tubs, and nearby amenities. Unlike most Disney World Resort Hotels, which typically offer a feature pool and one or more quiet pools, Port Orleans French Quarter has a single pool area. However, as the smallest moderate resort, the French Quarter’s pool is well-sized for the resort’s footprint. The compact layout means most guest rooms are only a short walk away. So it’s safe to say that its feature pool is more than adequate, given the resort’s size. In other words, don’t let the fact that it only has one pool deter you from planning a stay here.

When you exit the French Quarter’s lobby, you’re surrounded by cobblestone streets that lead to a significant recreation area. On the opposite side, the Sassagoula River acts as a boundary. Friendly alligators greet you as you make your way toward the pool.

A larger-than-life Mardi Gras jester waits to greet you inside the pool gates. Expect vibrant purples and yellows, as everything has a New Orleans look and feel.

More friendly alligators are scattered throughout the pool area.

Complimentary life jackets and towels are provided at the pool, so you won’t have to worry about bringing these things from home.

Port Orleans French Quarter Pool Hours
On our last stay, the French Quarter’s pool hours were posted between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. However, during the cooler months, those hours are typically reduced to 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Pool hours are posted at the gate. Our best advice is to take a photo of the hours during your stay if you think you’ll want to use the pool earlier or later.

The Doubloon Lagoon Pool
Doubloon Lagoon has a maximum depth of 4.6′ (four feet, six inches). It is one of the most child-friendly pools at Walt Disney World.

Disney pools are heated to 82 degrees. For Floridians, that’s freezing. However, those from colder climates will probably find the water comfortable. Well, it’s comfortable until you go to get out of the pool on a chilly January evening.

Part of the serpent’s body extends over the pool, forming a bridge.

Unfortunately, you probably won’t be able to see over the sides of the bridge. I had to lift my camera to take this photo.

Here is the view from underneath the water feature.

Sea Serpent Water Slide at Port Orleans French Quarter
Port Orleans French Quarter has a sea serpent slide at the pool. This area comprises the serpent’s head and tongue protruding to form a slide. For reference, all of the moderate and deluxe resorts have water slides at their feature pools. We have a separate list with photos of the resort water slides if you want to learn more.

King Neptune reigns supreme over the sea serpent, whose name is Scales. The slide is a total of 51′ long.

It’s a reasonably mild slide, which makes it child-friendly.

You’ll only have to climb a few steps to reach the top.

Here is the view from above.

At the top of the slide, you’ll sit down, feet first, and wait for the light to turn green.

Isn’t it the cutest?

My niece stayed at this resort when she was four years old. To this day, the pool remains one of her best memories from the trip.

Here are a few more photos of the Port Orleans French Quarter pool.

The Doubloon Lagoon Pool has an aquatic play area that’s designed for children ages 12 and under. Only a handful of resorts offer these elaborate splash pads.

It’s within a separate fenced area from the pool, making it easier for parents to monitor their children.

One end of the play area features a tube water slide.

The opposite end has a regular slide.

Mardi Grog’s Poolside Bar
Mardi Grog’s is the pool bar at Port Orleans French Quarter. It serves sandwiches, salads, kids’ meals, and various beverages, including cocktails, beer, and wine. It’s an okay spot if you’re looking for a beverage, but for food, we usually like to mobile-order food to go from the nearby Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory. You’ll just have to walk to the lobby to pick it up.

Hot Tub at Port Orleans French Quarter
Between the lobby and the pool area, there are two gated areas with other amenities. On the right side, there is a whirlpool spa area. Laundry on the Levee (the laundry room at Port Orleans French Quarter) is adjacent to this area.

It’s a small hot tub with a private lounge area separate from the main pool area. I would say it’s more of an adult-friendly area. However, on our last stay, the hot tub area was run rampant by a bunch of children who had little supervision.

Playground at Port Orleans French Quarter
A playground sits across the walkway from the hot tub area.

It, too, is in a separately fenced area.

The Resorts Gal Spin on the Doubloon Lagoon Pool
We consider Doubloon Lagoon to be the most kid-friendly pool at Disney World. We also give the pool an honorable mention for its theming on our rankings for best pools overall at Disney World. Because of the resort’s boutique size, no matter where you stay, you’ll only be a short walk from the pool, lobby, and transportation.
Theming for the resort is on point. And those friendly gators poised with their favorite jazz instruments are sure to make you smile a time or two during your stay. Port Orleans French Quarter is only a short walk or boat ride from Port Orleans Riverside. Guests of the resort are welcome to use the pools at Port Orleans Riverside, but I think most will agree the Doubloon Lagoon far supersedes Ol’ Man Island Pool. We love it!
I don’t really have any complaints about the pool area except for the fact that it can get crowded on a hot summer’s day. During our stay last August, we had difficulty finding a table and chairs or even a seat in the shade. Unfortunately, this is the case with the majority of the resort pools at Disney World. So if you absolutely need a lounge chair, your best bet is to arrive early or visit later in the afternoon when many guests leave to prepare for dinner.

Overall, the pool at Port Orleans French Quarter delivers a fun, themed experience that feels proportional to the resort’s intimate size. While it may not have multiple pool areas like some larger resorts, its Mardi Gras atmosphere, sea serpent slide, and convenient layout make it a memorable feature for many guests.
