Gino, Beloved Gorilla Passes Away at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Gino, a 44-year-old western lowland gorilla who called Disney’s Animal Kingdom home for nearly three decades, has passed away. Per Dr. Mark Penning, Vice President of Disney Animals, Science, and Environment, Gino was known for his playful spirit, gentle humor, and steady presence as a devoted father and troop leader. He touched the lives of countless guests and cast members. Disney shared the news of his passing, noting his lasting contribution to gorilla care, conservation efforts, and the future of the species.
Gino was the oldest gorilla at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and was also an opening day animal. He had been part of the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail for over 30 years, and would have been 45 this December.

While Gino may no longer be seen along the Gorilla Fall Exploration Trail, his story will continue in the lives of his 14 offspring, the conservation efforts he helped advance, and the hearts of anyone who paused to lock eyes with him during a visit.
