The Snow Stormers at Disney’s Blizzard Beach (Slalom-Style Mat Slides)
As we continue our coverage of the purple slopes at Disney’s Blizzard Beach, we’ll move on to the Snow Stormers. These mat slides allow guests to take on a slalom-style course down the side of Mount Gushmore. The Snow Stormers offer three courses, so if you enjoy your first run, you can try out the other two to compare them! Below, we’ll preview a few photos of what to expect. Unfortunately, photographing this slide’s actual track is difficult because it’s in embankments. If you’re standing at the foot of the mountain, you can identify it by the red, blue, and green slalom gates.
How Disney Water Parks Operate
It’s important to note that Disney’s water parks operate on a rotational schedule. Blizzard Beach is typically open between early November and March, and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is open between March and November. You’ll want to check the exact hours and availability for your visit.
The Snow Stormers are next to the Downhill Double Dipper and the Toboggan Racers, comprising the purple slopes. The attraction sign for the Snow Stormers reads:
Choose one of three slalom-style courses, grab a mate, and slide down a curving run marked by downhill ski gates. For safety, you should be in good health and free from heart conditions, back or neck problems, or other conditions that could be aggravated by this adventure. Expectant mothers should not ride. No infants.
Clothing with rivets, buckles, or exposed metal is not permitted. Glasses and loose jewelry should be removed.
Pool depth at the bottom of the slide is 3’9″ (1.2 meters). You should be a strong swimmer.
Blizzard Beach Attraction Sign
The Snow Stormers do not have a height requirement. When you reach the top of the course, you’ll grab a mat and join the line.
You can pick any of the three courses. A cast member will instruct you when it’s your turn. You’ll enter the small pool and lay your mat on the slide. Sliders must ride on their belly facing forward. It’s approximately a 350′ race to the finish. As you descend the mountain, you’ll weave back and forth like you might in a real slalom race.
The Resorts Gal Spin on the Snow Stormers
We give the Snow Stormers the green light if you don’t mind sliding on your belly. These slides are fun and not nearly as fast as others because of the curves on the way down. However, you will want to consider that your upper body will hit the water first. Therefore, you could get disoriented trying to put your feet down, and the water is nearly 4′ deep at the exit.
Resorts Gal Traffic Signal Guidelines
Green Light:
We give an attraction the green light if we consider it a must-do, regardless of the posted wait. We also green light any attractions we deem suitable to experience anytime. For example, some attractions have high capacities. Therefore, the lines continuously move and you shouldn’t have a long wait unless the attraction were to experience downtime.
Red Light:
We recommend checking the posted wait times for red light attractions. Then, make a quick judgment call on whether to wait, skip it, or return later. We also red light some attractions that we feel might not be suitable based on our experience.
Final Thoughts
Like most of the attractions at Blizzard Beach, the Snow Stormers are geared toward children, tweens, teens, and young adults. But with a water park themed to an abandoned ski resort, what can you expect? The kids will love it. For more attractions at Disney’s Blizzard Beach, you might enjoy:
- Ski Patrol Training Camp
- Run-Off Rapids
- Tike’s Peak
- Summit Plummet
- Slush Gusher
You might also enjoy our Blizzard Beach Dining Guide or Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park Guide. For comparable slides at Typhoon Lagoon, you might try the Storm Slides. However, none of the slides at Typhoon Lagoon use mats or are face forward.
