A Taste of the Cake Bake Shop: Gwendolyn’s Famous Earl’s Court Chocolate Cake Review
If you’re a chocolate lover like me, you would probably agree that the ultimate dessert is a slice of chocolate cake with chocolate icing. We’re talking layers of soft chocolate cake covered in a delicately whipped version of the same chocolate goodness. Of course, that’s what Gwendolyn’s Famous Earl’s Court Chocolate from the Cake Bake Shop promises to deliver. Per the description, it’s a Valrhona French chocolate cake filled with Callebaut Belgian chocolate ganache and malted chocolate cream. It comes topped with Callebaut Belgian chocolate fudge and fleur de sel (that’s a French word for fancy salt).

The Cake Bake Shop is located at Disney’s Boardwalk. The popular restaurant chain has two locations on the Boardwalk: a restaurant and a bakery. The bakery is a walk-up location that offers a variety of cakes, pastries, and other desserts. The shop also sells novelty items that lean a little more upscale, including plush, trinkets, and kitchen accessories. I would best describe it as a boutique bakery.

This was not our first visit to the Cake Bake Shop Bakery. You may recall that earlier last year, I stopped in and tried the gluten-free brownie, which was really a delicious dessert. At the time, I was alone and didn’t want to take on a huge slice of cake by myself. So I decided to wait until I had someone I could share it with.

Not only is the size of the cake considerable, but so is the price. At the time of our visit, a slice of cake cost $22.00 or $160.00 if you want to splurge on the entire thing.

Thankfully, we were staying at Disney’s Boardwalk and were able to take our slice back to the room and split it between the four of us.

The verdict? The cake was moist, and the chocolate was rich. There were no complaints in our group. However, I did prefer the darker chocolate over the lighter one. Ultimately, I think that’s a matter of personal preference.

Now, I always ask myself when I do these reviews if I would order something again. This one is a tough call for me. Ultimately, if I were craving chocolate, I might. Truly, though, there are so many other cakes that I would like to try. So I think I will go with the raspberry champagne cake on my next visit. Aside from chocolate, those are two of my favorite things as far as food is concerned.
If you’re planning a stay or a visit to Disney’s Boardwalk, you might also enjoy our recent review of the giant cheesestick at Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs. We also recently enjoyed the loaded crab fries at Hurricane Hanna’s over at Disney’s Beach Club. It’s only a short walk away. Of course, our favorite guilty pleasure in the area is the prime rib sliders from Crew’s Cup at the Yacht Club. For more on dining at Disney’s Boardwalk, see our restaurant guide:
