NEW: Walt Disney World Railroad to Operate Modified Route Starting July 7th
Walt Disney World has announced that the Walt Disney World Railroad will run a modified route beginning July 7th of 2025. At that time, the Frontierland Station will close, and the train will transport guests between Main Street Station and Fantasyland Station. Here is the official wording from the Walt Disney World website.
To make way for the largest expansion in history at Magic Kingdom, the Walt Disney World Railroad will be operating under a modified route that excludes Frontierland station beginning July 7. The attraction will operate as a shuttle between Main Street Station and Fantasyland Station only.

Update: The train now stops at Main Street Station and takes guests backwards as it makes the journey through Tomorrowland to Fantasyland Station. This reverse route allows guests to ride the route in the opposite direction from what is normal. Some of the train benches have even been turned to face the opposite direction. So if you like to face the direction in which you’re going, make sure to board the train that way. That said, if you decide to stay on at Fantasyland Station, the train will return the same way. If you remain in the same seat, you’ll be facing the opposite way. (For most, this won’t be an issue. It’s a slow ride.)

Overall, we are happy that the train continues to transport guests during the park’s next phase of construction. You may remember it was closed for a significant amount of time during the construction of Tron Lightcycle / Run, which was even more extended due to the pandemic.
