Review: The Wayfinder Burger from Wailulu Bar and Grill at Disney’s Polynesian
If you’ve been considering a meal at Wailulu Bar and Grill at Disney’s Polynesian Villas, you might be persuaded into ordering one of their popular menu items: the Wayfinder Burger. I did. For this visit, I was walking from the Polynesian to the Grand Floridian, and decided to see if I could get a last-minute walk-up for Wailulu Bar and Grill. You may remember that back in December, the restaurant began accepting reservations. Before that, it was strictly a walk-up location.
So, for the most part, you’ll want to secure a reservation. I was by myself on this visit, and often I can get away with snagging a table for one, which is how it worked out. While waiting for a table, I previewed the menu and was going back and forth between the Grilled Teriyaki Chicken Chow Mein Salad and the Poke Bowl options. I had no intention of ordering a burger, because I had only recently enjoyed the signature burger prix fixe option at Tiffins.

It was a beautiful evening, and thankfully, the weather was warm enough to allow for an outdoor meal. I was placed at a table for two that offered a stunning view of Seven Seas Lagoon at right about sunset. When the cast member came to take my order, I told him what I was considering, and he threw me for a loop by suggesting something entirely different. That’s how I ended up trying the Wayfinder Burger, which he claimed was the best burger on property.

Per the menu, the Wayfinder Burger is two pressed patties with American cheese, onion jam, and volcano sauce served on a sweet bun with a choice of two sides. The side options were a mac salad or sweet potato fries. Now, I did have some hesitations about the volcano sauce, which is basically a semi-sweet spicy aioli. So I ordered the sauce on the side.
While I was waiting for my food, someone at the table next to me mentioned that they had enjoyed the poke bowl and that it was really delicious. So I was a little worried that I hadn’t gone with that option.

When the burger arrived, I took a few photos that didn’t turn out as well as I would have liked due to minimal lighting.

Right away, I was thankful that I ordered the spicy volcano sauce on the side. It added a nice kick to the burger, but I wouldn’t have wanted much.

So was the burger good? No, it was beyond good…it was fantastic. I even remembered to cut it open to give you a peek at the juicy inside. The meat blend was everything you want in a burger. It was absolutely delicious. (I assume that it was swimming in butter right before it was brought to the table.)

Now, was it the best burger at Disney World? I think I would give it the edge over the burger at Tiffins. That said, I don’t think the burgers fall into the same class. The Wayfinder Burger is a guilty pleasure type of burger, and the toppings really complemented the flavors. While the burger at Tiffins was elevated and more refined. I would order either one of them again.

Now I have not had the Steakhouse Burger at Steakhouse 71, which also gets rave reviews. As far as other contenders, I’m not sure. These are the three that I hear the most about. In fact, while I enjoyed my meal, I noticed that all of the tables seated after me ordered the burger. There was even a family of six, and everyone at the table ordered a burger.

As for the sweet potato fries, they were good, and I appreciated a unique offering. Overall, I plan to return to Wailulu Bar and Grill, and the next time….it will be difficult to try something new because that burger is so yummy. I’ll let you decide if you want to order it with the sauce or not.
