Worth It or Not? The Citrus Glazed Chicken Strips at Disney’s Riviera Resort’s Primo Piatto
You may remember that in early October, Disney introduced 13 new sauced chicken strips across the Walt Disney World Resort. The new flavors range from mild to spicy and from sweet to savory. One of the flavors ended up on the menu at Primo Piatto, the quick-service restaurant at Disney’s Riviera Resort: Citrus Glazed Chicken Strips. This particular version of chicken strips is exclusive to the resort. You won’t find them anywhere else!
During a recent visit, we decided to hop over to the Riviera for dinner at our favorite quick-service. On the Skyliner ride over, I browsed the menu in the My Disney Experience app. When I saw the new chicken strips, I knew I had to try them. But were they worth it? Let’s find out.

The citrus-glazed chicken strips are simply described as “served with a choice of side” on Primo Piatto’s menu. Since I have a food dye allergy, I asked the cast member if I could look at the ingredients. Thankfully, there were no issues, and I was cleared to order them. The other person in my party ordered a child’s chicken strips.
One of the reasons we enjoy Primo Piatto so much is that you can order at the register and then find a seat. A cast member will bring your order to the table when it’s ready. Items come out on glass plates with a cloth napkin and real silverware. These small touches make for a more refined meal, even though it’s only a quick service. Of course, you can always use Disney’s mobile order service, but you’ll end up with food prepared to-go that’s served in a cardboard box. Don’t get me wrong, we love mobile orders, just not at this location.
Anyway, here are our orders of chicken strips.

The verdict? They were just okay. On my first bite, I thought the chicken strips were flavorful, but the emphasis was more on sugar than citrus. By the time I finished, I felt like they were a sugar bomb more than anything. It was one of those experiences where the more bites I took, the less I liked them.
As far as the aioli dipping sauce goes, it was not my thing. It is important to note that the chicken strips come drizzled with aioli if you order them regularly. I requested the sauce to come on the side. The aioli offers a stark contrast to the sweetness of the chicken. So if you like aioli, you might not get that same “sugary” taste as I did without the sauce. Rest assured, however, the sweetness is still there.
Overall, our meal was pleasant, but these particular chicken fingers are not something I would order on a return visit. I felt like they might have worked well with a chicken and waffles type of dish, where the bread would have soaked up some of the richness of the citrus glaze.
