A Topolino's Terrace Character Breakfast Review

Breakfast à la Art with Mickey and Friends is the name of the character breakfast at Topolino’s Terrace – Flavors of the Riviera. This upscale restaurant at Disney’s Riviera Resort offers a unique opportunity to dine with characters for breakfast each morning.

This Topolino’s Terrace character breakfast review discusses our original dining experience. We’ve also updated this review to address a few changes that have taken place since our last meal. When we originally dined here, modified character dining experiences were in place to maintain distancing. Thankfully, those modifications are history, and characters again greet guests at the table and sign autographs.

If you plan a meal at Topolino’s Terrace, you’ll want to know that characters are only available at breakfast. The restaurant transitions to signature dining in the evening. This rooftop restaurant is a wonderful place to enjoy fine dining with stunning sunset views.

You can take the Skyliner from several resorts to travel to Topolino’s Terrace.

Reservations for Topolino’s Terrace Character Breakfast

At the time of this update, resort guests can make dining reservations for 60 days out, plus the length of their stay. Day guests can make reservations 60 days out. Given the popularity of this character meal, reservations can be difficult to obtain. You’ll want to be up early on the morning your reservation window opens to secure a time slot.

Guests driving a personal vehicle will need to have a resort reservation to park at the Riviera Resort. We’ve stopped a time or two to visit Bar Riva, and they would not let us park. So be prepared to show your identification at the gate. The security guard will have a list of guest names with reservations.

Topolino’s Terrace is located on the resort’s 10th floor. When you enter the resort’s front entrance, you’ll make your way past the gift shop and cafe. You’ll continue down the hallway until you reach the elevators.

Topolino’s Terrace offers a prix fixe menu where each table receives a basket of pastries, an entree, and a choice of regular beverages like coffee, tea, or soda. Additional beverages like a pressed pot of coffee and other specialty drinks are available for an additional cost.

Unfortunately, Disney is not as lenient as they were in the past regarding the prix fixe menu. For example, when we had breakfast at Topolino’s Terrace, we enjoyed three entrees split among two people. They were included in the price. However, we’ve seen numerous reports that Topolino’s no longer allows guests to order any extras, which is disappointing given the expense of the meal.

Avocado Toast with Smoked Salmon: Prosciutto, Poached Egg, Toy Box Tomatoes, Fennel, Harissa Vinaigrette, Ciabatta
Two Eggs, Any Style: Roasted Potatoes served with a choice of Smoked Bacon, Ham, or Sausage
Sour Cream Waffle: Roasted Apples, Chantilly, Orange-Maple Syrup, and served with a choice of Smoked Bacon, Ham, Sausage, or Plant-based Sausage
Wood-Fired Steak and Eggs: Polenta, Pomodoraccio Tomatoes, Roasted Potatoes, Wild Mushroom Conserva, choice of Two Eggs (Any Style)
Quiche Gruyère: House-made Pancetta, Roasted Potatoes, Gruyère, Field Greens, Lemon Vinaigrette
Fruit Plate: Fresh Fruit, Honey Yogurt, Seed Granola
Wild Mushroom Scramble: Spinach, Plant-based Eggs, Plant-based Sausage, Tomatoes

Our Meal at Topolino’s Terrace

Breakfast begins with an assortment of pastries. Since my son has food allergies, he was brought a separate paint bucket. It contained special breadsticks with allergy-friendly spreads. They were shaped like the popular French Epi bread.

He was also brought a few allergy-friendly cookies since he didn’t have any sweets in his paint bucket.

Since I don’t have food allergies, I received the regular paint bucket presentation. It contained croissants, chocolate chip muffins, fruit-filled, and cheese-filled danishes. On the side, we had a few spreads that consisted of honey butter, jam, and a chocolate hazelnut spread. My favorite part was the croissant with strawberry sauce drizzled on top. However, I would caution against eating too many pastries before receiving your entree.

Our server brought a pot of coffee, which was included in the price of the meal.

An individual pot of coffee was brought to the table.

We ordered three entrees to split between us. Again, this is no longer an option. But at the time, we thought it was reasonable. Our fruit presentation was lovely. But I couldn’t imagine this being my one entree.

My son ended up eating most of it. That’s a sunflower seed spread on the plate. It kind of looks like peanut butter, but this makes for a great substitute.

He ordered the sour cream waffle with a side of bacon. This was prepared with an allergy-friendly mix that doesn’t contain eggs or dairy. It is similar to what a normal guest will receive when ordering the adult sour cream waffle with a side. The chef uses a special waffle iron to prevent cross-contamination. It didn’t hurt that it doubled as a Mickey waffle.

If you order the regular sour cream waffles, they come with roasted apple, Chantilly, orange maple syrup, a side of bacon, smoked ham, sausage, or plant-based sausage.

I ordered the Quiche Gruyère for my entrée. This was an excellent choice and a hearty meal.

The quiche came with a fresh watercress salad and a side of roasted potatoes.

The crispy potatoes on the side were the perfect accompaniment, along with the salad tossed in a lemon vinaigrette.

Lastly, we’ll discuss the characters at Topolino’s Breakfast a la Art. Four classic characters greet guests wearing outfits expressing their favorite artistic passions. The character interactions at this meal were endearing!

First, we have Daisy Duck as she twirls around the room, gracefully posing for photos. It appears that most of her time is spent on the dance floor these days. So don’t be surprised when you find her dancing full-time at Hollywood Studios.

Donald Duck is dressed as a master sculptor. You can tell that Donald Duck is living his best life on the French Riviera. It totally fits the bill.

Minnie Mouse is sporting a fashionable outfit. The print of her dress is covered in her favorite poems. This leaves me wondering, at what point will you find me at Disney wearing a skirt littered with my favorite blog posts?

Mickey Mouse is in a painter’s apron splattered with the colors of the countryside. That’s where I imagine he sits peacefully, creating his next work of art, probably a picture of Minnie Mouse. (You might have seen the Mickey and Minnie short cartoon to which I’m referring.)

A few plush items representing the characters at the meal were available for purchase.

If you have time, you might want to step out and enjoy the rooftop terrace during your visit. It offers stunning views of the surrounding area.

Final Thoughts

We loved the character breakfast at Topolino’s Terrace. It is our favorite character meal at Disney World. While it is expensive, we think the food is of much better quality than what you would get at a buffet or all-you-care-to-eat family skillet meals. Topolino’s Terrace is the only character breakfast where you can order an entree and have it delivered to the table.

Overall, Topolino’s Terrace is hard to beat. But what’s not to like about dining with classic characters styled as you might find them on the French Riviera? While the price is high for this meal, the value of the experience and the quality of the food tend to balance things out.
