Using Disney World’s Free Water Park Benefit on Your Arrival Day
One of the benefits of staying at a Disney Resort Hotel this summer is having the opportunity to take advantage of the water park arrival day benefit. This limited-time offer is valid for check-in dates this summer between May 26th and September 8th (2026). On your arrival day (and only on your arrival day), you can take advantage of complimentary admission to the water park of your choice: Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon. This is a significant extra, but you will need to plan well to make the most of it.
So, for this article, I wanted to put together a more formal overview of the water park perk, along with a few scenarios that might help you figure out the best way to use it. You might also want to know that Disney has confirmed this benefit will return for select summer dates in 2027, except for the campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness. That particular resort area has been excluded.

How the Water Park Perk Works
When you make reservations at an eligible hotel during the summer dates listed above, a complimentary water park ticket is added to your account. In our experience, the pass doesn’t appear until right before the start of your trip. A day or two ahead of time, log into the My Disney Experience app, and scroll down to My Tickets and Passes. Here you’ll find a pass that says, “Resort Guest Water Park Day Arrival Benefit.” This is your ticket confirmation. You must include everyone who’s staying in the room when you make the reservation to ensure that they receive a complimentary water park ticket. You can use a MagicBand, Keys to the World Card, or MagicMobile to enter the park.
Since the water park ticket is added ahead of your arrival, you do not have to check in at your resort before visiting the water park. However, if you have luggage that needs to be stored, you might prefer to drop it off with bell services before heading to the water park. Both water parks have small and large locker options, but luggage is not permitted inside the parks or on Walt Disney World buses.
Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach will both be open this summer, so you’ll have to choose which water park you want to visit. We enjoy both water parks, but I personally prefer Typhoon Lagoon with its tropical vibe. If you would like to learn more about spending the day here, see our one-day itinerary for Typhoon Lagoon. Those with children and teenagers might prefer to spend the day at Disney’s Blizzard Beach. It has more of a competitive vibe with many attractions themed to winter games. If you decide to go that route, you might enjoy our one-day itinerary for Blizzard Beach. Both itineraries are designed to help you plan your entire day, including arrival tips and experiencing every attraction (if desired).
Depending on your circumstances, you’ll also want to be aware of how to get to and from the water parks. If you are driving, you can park at either of the water park’s complimentary parking lots. However, parking is subject to availability. If you were to arrive later on an exceptionally busy day, you might have to park at a nearby theme park and then take transportation back to the water park. This doesn’t necessarily happen often, but it is a possibility.
If you stop by your resort first, you can always take a bus from the resort to the water park. A few resorts offer a direct route, while other resorts require a transfer. For instance, if you were staying at Disney’s Beach Club, you would take a bus to Disney Springs, and then transfer to a bus for Typhoon Lagoon. Or you would take a bus to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and then transfer to a bus for Blizzard Beach.
We find this process to be very simple on the way to the water park, but by the end of the day, it often feels like more of a hassle. Since we have a car with us 99% of the time, we almost always drive to the water parks. If we didn’t have a car, we’d probably take a resort bus on the way, and then pay extra to take a car service or Minnie Van on the return trip to the resort. That’s up to you. It’s really not a huge deal to take the bus back. Just be aware that waiting for that second bus might take a little extra time.

Is the Water Park Perk Worth It for Late Arrivals?
Obviously, some won’t arrive until later in the day. So you might want to know: how late is too late to visit a water park? My answer to that question depends on how late the water park is open on your arrival date. Right now, it looks like through June, both water parks will be open until 7:00 p.m on Mondays through Thursdays and until 8:00 p.m. on most weekends. Please make sure that you confirm the park’s hours of operation closer to the time. You can easily check park hours by opening the My Disney Experience app and scrolling down to Park Hours and Info. (We double-check the park hours almost daily when we’re visiting.)
Here is an idea of how we would justify timing.
- If the water park is open until 6:00 p.m., I would want to be at the park by 2:00 p.m. at the latest.
- If the water park is open until 7:00 p.m., I would want to be at the park by 3:00 p.m. at the latest.
- If the water park is open until 8:00 p.m., I would want to be at the park by 5:00 p.m. at the latest.
In most circumstances, I would want to have at least four hours at the park to make it worth the effort. That said, when I lived in the area, I would often drive over at about 5:00 p.m. when the park was open until 8:00 p.m. Those were some of my favorite times. The water parks tend to empty earlier in the day, making it easier to accomplish things later. Also, don’t feel like you have to do everything. You could simply hang out at the wave pool or loop the lazy river and still have a fun time, especially with complimentary admission.

Arriving Before Your Check-in Day
If you’re driving or are open to flying down a day early, you might prefer to plan a split stay to take advantage of the water park benefit. For example, you could drive down and spend the night at an off-site hotel that’s near Disney World. Then, you could wake up the next morning, drop your luggage off at the resort, and head straight to the water park.
This is our preferred way to visit Walt Disney World. We like to arrive a day early, get a good night’s sleep, and have a fresh start the next day. We almost always travel this way. It just allows for a smoother start to the trip.
As mentioned above, you might also like to do a more intricately planned split stay. For example, last year, we started our trip at Disney’s Boardwalk and then moved to Saratoga Springs later in the week. Since we had two separate resort reservations, we received complimentary water park admission on our Boardwalk and our Saratoga Springs arrival day. We actually flew into Orlando for this trip on our arrival day, got a car, picked up groceries, and headed to the Boardwalk. Since we had two options, some of our group opted to take advantage of the water park benefit on our Saratoga Springs Day.
The main point I’m trying to make is that if you think outside of the box (and are flexible), there are a couple of unique ways to make this perk work really well for your group!

Other Tips for Complimentary Water Park Admission Benefit
Before we wrap things up, I have a few other tips that might help out. If you are flying in, I would suggest packing swimsuits, sunscreen, a pair of sandals or slides, and water park shoes in a separate bag toward the top of your luggage. That way, you’ll have everything together and can quickly retrieve it when you arrive. You might also consider bringing a change of clothes and a couple of plastic bags to stick your wet swimsuits in when you leave the park.
Both water parks have restrooms with changing areas, showers with Disney toiletries (body wash, shampoo, and conditioner), complimentary towels (for resort guests), and hair dryers. So, if need be, you can change and freshen up at the water park. I mention this because Disney Springs is across the street from Typhoon Lagoon, and some plan to have dinner there before returning to the hotel.
One other thing, afternoon thunderstorms are common in the summer. If you can check the weather and see that a storm will pass, it’s often worth it to wait it out. Nothing empties a water park faster than a thunderstorm. You might even feel like you have the place to yourself when the weather clears.

Final Thoughts
As someone who visits the water parks often, I encourage you to take advantage of this special perk if you can. We always enjoy our visits, especially those afternoons when the park is open late. You can’t beat a sunset at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon! If you would like to learn more about resort benefits, see our entire guide below.
