Disney Announces 2028 Disney Skyliner Refurbishment Dates
Walt Disney World has announced dates for the next scheduled refurbishment of the Disney Skyliner. The popular gondola transportation system will be temporarily unavailable from January 24 through February 2, 2028.
The closure will affect guests staying at the Disney Resort hotels served by the Skyliner, although complimentary bus transportation will be available during the refurbishment. Here is the official announcement from the Walt Disney World website:
Disney Skyliner will be closed for routine refurbishment January 24–30, 2027 and January 24–February 2, 2028. During this time, complimentary bus transportation will be available.
If you have plans to stay at a Disney Resort hotel with direct access to the Skyliner, you’ll want to be aware of this temporary closure when planning your transportation. When the Skyliner is unavailable, complimentary bus service will be provided to both EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios from the following resorts:
- Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
- Disney’s Pop Century Resort
- Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
- Disney’s Riviera Resort
These resorts typically do not offer bus service to EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios while the Skyliner is operating.
Annual Skyliner Refurbishment Details
Since opening, the Disney Skyliner has routinely undergone its annual refurbishment in January, with one exception. If you’re planning a visit during the 2028 closure, there are a few things to keep in mind:
- Resort-hopping and dining: During the closure, you won’t be able to use the Skyliner to visit the participating resorts for dining or resort-hopping. Instead, you’ll need to use bus transportation to get between the parks and resorts. For example, if you’re visiting Disney’s Riviera Resort from another Disney Resort, you could take a bus to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and then transfer to a bus for the Riviera.
- Visiting EPCOT: Guests staying at the Skyliner resorts who are visiting EPCOT will be dropped off at the park’s main entrance while the Skyliner is closed. Normally, the Skyliner provides access to EPCOT through the International Gateway entrance. This is something to consider when planning your rope drop strategy and deciding how much time to allow for transportation.
These dates are specific to the 2028 refurbishment and are separate from the previously announced Disney Skyliner closure dates for 2027.
