Sassagoula River Cruise at Disney’s Old Key West to Temporarily Close
If you’re visiting Disney’s Old Key West in the next few weeks, you’ll want to be aware that the Sassagoula River boat service will be closed starting July 20th through early August. This boat route is often referred to as the Disney Vacation Club Ferry and serves as a secondary means of transportation to Disney Springs. Here is the official announcement:
From July 20 through early August, refurbishment work will take place along the Sassagoula River Cruise boat route. During this time, boat service to Disney Springs® will be temporarily unavailable. Please utilize Walt Disney World® bus service.
Walt Disney World

During the river cruise’s closure, you’ll need to take bus service to and from Disney Springs. Or if you enjoy walking, you might venture out on the walking path between Old Key West and Disney Springs. However, it is fairly lengthy, and we wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re very familiar with the area, especially during extreme heat.
Disney’s Old Key West is a deluxe villa resort in the Disney Springs Resort Area. If you would like to learn more about staying here, see our review of Disney’s Old Key West. In addition to this announcement, the refurbishment at Hospitality House has been extended. We’ll take a look at the updated announcement in a separate article.
