First Look: Newly Re-Opened Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom
Walt Disney World has shared a first look at the newly reopened Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom. The attraction reopened this morning, May 3rd, after undergoing a lengthy refurbishment that lasted more than a year. Let’s take a look at what you can expect on your next wildest ride in the wilderness.

First, we have the completely redone rainbow caverns that are full of phosphorescent pools, including iridescent stalagmites.

Don’t forget to look up for a few casual mine inhabitants…bats.

Just remember that Disney has previously warned that the rainbow caverns aren’t as friendly as they may appear. In fact, they’ll soon turn an angry red as you make your way out of the mine.

As you race through the town of Tumbleweed, you might also notice a few updates. The town includes a boarding house, a company store, a saloon, and a jail, amongst other establishments. You can tell from the pictures that everything has a fresh look.

Here are a few other photos of the new railroad tracks that run through Big Thunder.

Overall, we’re happy to see Big Thunder Mountain Railroad return to the list of attractions at Magic Kingdom. You’ll want to remember that the ride has a new height requirement of 38″. The attraction has also returned to the Lightning Lane Multi Pass lineup at Magic Kingdom. Big Thunder Mountain is a Tier 1 selection.
A few other reminders: Big Thunder Mountain is not an early entry attraction. However, it is part of the extended evening hours lineup for deluxe and deluxe villa resort guests on select evenings.
