Disney's Contemporary Resort June 2026 Refurbishment Update

An exterior refurbishment is now underway at Disney’s Contemporary. You may remember that the resort has been undergoing a refurbishment since the Fall of 2024. Albeit some of that work was completed at Bay Lake Tower, the neighboring Disney Vacation Club Resort. At the time these photos were taken in early June of 2026, we saw scaffolding and several tarps in place on the front right side of the Contemporary. The tarps can pretty much be seen from anywhere you can get a view of the Contemporary.

Of course, you don’t have to worry about receiving a room assignment in an area where work is being completed. Any rooms where views might be blocked by the exterior work would be out of inventory.

Here is a view that shows the current scope of work as we approach the resort via the monorail.

When we arrived at the Contemporary, I had a little extra time on my hands, so I stepped out front and took a few photos.

As you can see, the last two columns were completely covered with tarps. Scaffolding was in place on the entire lower right half of the building. Most rooms on this side of the resort offer a theme park view, touting the ability to see Magic Kingdom’s Happily Ever After in the distance. It’s a magical way to end the night if you make it back to the room early enough to see the fireworks from the balcony. That said, we find the views of Bay Lake on the opposite side of the resort are peaceful and serene. So it’s something worth considering.

As a reminder, here is the current refurbishment notice posted for the Contemporary. It was initially expected to be completed by the end of 2026, but then extended through late 2027.

Through late 2027, refurbishment work will occur in phases throughout select areas of Disney’s Contemporary Resort—including Bay Lake Tower and the Main Tower atrium. Additionally, Main Tower exterior maintenance may impact views from various locations throughout the Resort hotel and, at times, require alternate paths of travel. Guests may see or hear construction during daytime hours.

If you’re planning a stay at Disney’s Contemporary, make sure you’re aware of this current refurbishment. At this stage, it wouldn’t be a deal-breaker for us to stay there.
